School Canopies

Free-standing and lean-to canopies

The two ways a school canopy stands are free-standing, on its own columns out in the playground, or lean-to, fixed to the building so it needs no front columns. The choice sets where the cover can go and how open the space underneath feels.

  • Free-standing or lean-to
  • Column-free lean-to option
  • Powder-coated steel
  • Polycarbonate roof

Goes anywhere

A free-standing frame sits on its own base with no wall needed.

Column-free option

A lean-to cantilevers off the building so there are no front columns.

Same quality frame

Both use a UK-made, powder-coated steel frame with an impact-resistant roof.

Free-standing & lean-to canopies questions

Free-standing or lean-to, which is better?

Neither is better outright. Free-standing goes anywhere with a base and suits open playgrounds; a lean-to fixes to the building for column-free cover by the doors. The right one depends on the wall, the ground and where the space is used, which we confirm at survey.

Is a lean-to canopy fixed to the wall strong enough?

Yes, when it is engineered for it. A lean-to canopy is designed with the building fixing and the loads calculated to BS EN 1991 and BS EN 1993, which is part of the structural design we provide for sign-off.
